| Homemade Candy |

| [ | mood |
| | full | ] | My boyfriend and I are part of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and this was the candy served for dessert at the feast during our latest event a few days ago:

The hearts are chewy gingerbread (with slightly strong ginger, but still sweet and good), the round candies are almond bites made with almonds, honey, and almond paste and the flowers are marzipan.

Fall in Western Pennsylvania is perfect for picnics! We had deli meat sandwiches, broccoli salad, a side salad and cheesecake for dessert! It was delicious!

| Burgundy salad with poached egg |
[Nov. 15th, 2009|07:15 pm] |
I was googling poached eggs earlier and came across this recipe, which I promptly made for dinner. It was DIVINE.

mixed greens tossed with finely sliced red onions and a dijon/red wine vinegar/italian parsley vinaigrette topped with: sliced grape tomatoes bacon diced and fried chanterelles and crimini's deeply sauteed in a bit of the bacon grease and a garlic crouton (slice of baguette brushed with garlic lightly sauteed in olive oil) & poached egg
Sometimes it's so sad when dinner ends. |

| Yorkshire Pudding!! |
[Nov. 15th, 2009|05:46 pm] |
oh yeah, and roast beef, too. And gravy, and peas, and roasted carrots, and garlic mashed potatoes. But most importantly, YORKSHIRE PUDDING. This was my first attempt at this grand and most favourite meal. I did overcook the meat, which I think is a common issue, but it was still so so tasty. I am currently enjoying cold roast beef sandwiches with mustard.

The Benediction at the Chimes. Same idea as Eggs Benedict, but with fried crawfish tails as well.

| | Sumigaw - Rivermaya | ] | We call it "sopas" in the Philippines, and we always have this one during rainy days. I don't know what's with the rain but the soup really taste good when the weather is cold, and all you want to do the whole day is stay home and just bum around.
It's a little chilly already here in China so I started off my day with a hot macaroni soup ("mainit na sopas")! I miss home, already... this soup makes me cherish the not-so-old cold rainy days back home.

| Battle of Corned Beef & Cabbage Sandwiches: San Francisco |
[Nov. 14th, 2009|07:51 pm] |
(Pardon weak phone photography)
The first contender: John Campbell's Irish Bakery. ($6.00) Simple corned beef and cabbage with pickling spices on a Belfast bap. (I added brown sauce.) Heated up by the nice folks at the counter, it was glorious. Everything I've had there so far is glorious. And there's a whole lot of everything in that little shop. If you're in or visiting the Bay Area, you must go.

| Birthday Feast |
[Nov. 14th, 2009|08:53 pm] |
For my darling husband's birthday I made us a romantic feast. On the table is homemade lasagna with homemade noodles and my Sunday gravy from scratch. I also baked a loaf of whole wheat bread along with a lemon chiffon birthday cake with buttercream frosting.
The photography isn't stellar, and my decorating isn't great but this was an amazing dinner.
The whole feast.
